It has an Intel Core i5-2520M, two core, multi-threading CPU.

It has been upgraded up through Windows 10 Pro Version 2004 (OS Build 19041.508) without issue or hiccup.

If the OEM doesnt want to write drivers for older hardware, its not because Intel or Microsoft told them not to, its because the OEM doesnt want to invest the time and effort.

Are you telling me that this system will not install Windows 2004.

I have the spare SSDs but not the goodwill to bow down and pay homage to thieving piggery.

Its GTX 760 GPU is still working with the newest nVidia proprietary drivers, and if it doesnt make it to the point that its performance is inadequate for my rather meager needs before nVidia cuts it off, Ill have to give AMD some thought, even though nVidias performance per dollar and per watt is way ahead.

I dont buy things to send messages, but I do buy with my own needs in mind, now and in the future.

At least a GPU in a desktop can be replaced without much issue (in contrast to PCs like my Dell G3, where I would have to replace the whole thing to upgrade to a newer GPU).

If nVidia refuses to provide the info and cooperation to make the open-source drivers decent (and they do), then they need to provide support for as long as the Nouveau devs would, or else theyre on my list.

Not that they care much about my opinion, but its the acceptance by the general populace of arbitrary obsolescence that make this kind of thing possible.

It was on there for maybe ten minutes before Id seen enough and went back to 7.

I do have another PC with almost identical specs that I was using back then as a test PC for 10 (and Linux), as I expected MS to do as they always have, which is to say listen to the customers and improve the product.

By the first update, I could see that this was not going to happen, so I began the process of migrating.

Windows 10 got wiped from the test PC, and Linux went on the main PC as dual-boot.

Ive let this go as you have what I would perceive as a valid point for discussion.

So no problem with Intel or Microsoft here as far as I can see.
